“Everyone tells me something different and I don’t know who to believe”
You have probably spoken to a few consultants already. One said your profile is excellent and you will definitely get into a top university. Another suggested a private institution you had never heard of. A relative said Germany is free. A YouTube video said you need twenty lakh rupees. None of them asked to see your mark sheets first.
That is the problem our counselling is designed to solve. Not more options — a clear reading of the ones that are actually open to you, based on your real numbers.
What’s actually involved
The first session runs about thirty minutes and covers four things.
- Your academic profile. Your degree, your percentage or CGPA, your subject background, any gaps or backlogs. We convert this into the terms German universities use, because an Indian percentage does not map onto a German grade the way people assume.
- Your language position. Whether you have IELTS, TOEFL or German certification, and whether the courses you are interested in even require German. Many master’s programs in Germany are taught fully in English, which changes the plan considerably.
- Your budget. Honestly. Tuition at public universities is low or absent, but the blocked account alone requires €11,904, and living costs vary a great deal between cities. This is where plans most often turn out to be unrealistic, and it is better to know in session one.
- Your goal. Whether you want to return to India afterwards or stay and work changes which course and which city make sense.
You leave with a realistic shortlist, a rough timeline working backwards from your target intake, and a clear statement of what stands between you and an application.
-
Profile Assessment
A detailed review of your academics, test scores, and budget to figure out which programs and cities are realistic for you.
-
University Shortlist
A ranked shortlist balancing admission chances, cost, and your career goals — not just brand-name universities.
-
Timeline Planning
A written plan working backwards from your target intake (Winter or Summer semester) with every deadline marked.
What Setu does for you
- One counsellor, assigned to you, who knows your file rather than reading it fresh each time you call.
- A written timeline with the dates that matter: application deadlines, APS, blocked account, visa appointment window.
- A shortlist that includes realistic options, not only aspirational ones, with an honest assessment of your chances at each.
- A budget breakdown covering blocked account, living costs in the specific cities on your list, insurance and the fees you will actually face.
- Parents included in the conversation if you want, in plain language, because they are usually funding this and deserve a straight answer.
- We only work on Germany, so the answers are specific rather than general.
What usually goes wrong
Starting too late. A student arrives in March wanting a Winter intake that year. APS alone is 4 to 8 weeks, the university deadline has often passed, and the visa needs 6 to 12 weeks after that. It is usually still possible to target the next intake, but the year is lost.
Budgeting for tuition and forgetting everything else. Public university tuition being low is the headline. The blocked account, health insurance, the Kaution on a flat, flights and the first month before any money is released are the actual cost.
Shortlisting by ranking. A university’s global ranking says very little about whether it will admit you, whether its course matches your background, or whether you can afford to live in that city.
Ignoring the language requirement of the specific course. “Germany teaches in English” is true of many programs and false of many others. Checking the course, not the country, is what matters.
Not addressing backlogs or gaps. These do not automatically disqualify you, but an application that ignores them invites the question. An application that explains them does not.
Cost and timeline
The counselling is completely free. The first session, the shortlist, the timeline — no charge, no commission, no obligation to use us for anything afterwards.
On timeline: come to us 12 to 18 months before your target intake if you can. Germany runs Winter (usually starting October) and Summer (usually starting April) semesters, and application deadlines sit months ahead of each. If you are inside that window already, the session is still worth having — knowing exactly where you stand is more useful than hoping.

Yes, completely free with no hidden charges. You are not signing up for anything by having the conversation, and if you decide Germany is not for you afterwards, that is a fine outcome.
Your latest mark sheets or transcripts, any language test scores you have, and a rough idea of your budget. If you do not have all of it yet, come anyway — we can work with approximate figures.
Then we will tell you that directly and look at what is genuinely achievable. Germany has a wide range of institutions and entry requirements, and a realistic plan for a mid-range university beats a doomed application to a famous one.
Twelve to eighteen months before your intended intake. APS takes 4 to 8 weeks, blocked accounts take weeks, visa processing takes 6 to 12 weeks, and university deadlines sit months before the semester starts.
No. We only do Germany. That is deliberate — it is the reason we can answer detailed questions about APS, Sperrkonto rules and specific university requirements instead of giving general advice.
Yes. If your budget does not cover the blocked account, or your profile is not competitive for the course you want this intake, you will hear it in the first session rather than after you have spent money.
